The quintet from Korea known as BABY V.O.X. is back with their fourth album titled "why." The group consists of Kim E Z, Lee Hee Jin, Sim Eun Jin, Kan Mi Youn and Yoon Eun Hye. The group has come a long way from their first album which was more happy idol pop until the release of their 3rd album where they decided to focus on cool R&B/Pop which has brought the group into the dominant ranks of other Korean Pop girls groups
such as S.E.S. and Fin.K.L. (Fine Killing Liberty). I have to admit that the girls caught my attention with the music video "Get Up." I was really impressed how they changed their style to this really cool and hip looking group. Their third album was really awesome with songs such as "Get Up," "Killer" and "Missing You" and now that the fourth album is finally out, how does it compare to the third?
It's actually pretty good. It appears with each album, the quintet gets better and better. Also, there is a definite improvement of the music this time around. The title track, "Why" is a pretty good song but the song right after is pretty cool! The second track "beh-shin" sounds like `NSync's "Bye Bye Bye." It's actually a pretty awesome track. Then there is the fifth track "Overlap" which is very cool. I'm
serious, the music and the beats are a lot better than the third album and I wonder if the music was done in the US because it's like something you would hear from your pop station. Of course, fans of the old style probably don't dig this new hip, R&B style but I prefer this music than the happy idol pop of their first album. What about slow jams? Oh...if you thought "Missing You" was good, you have to hear tracks such as track 6 -
"LUX". The song makes you want to melt...it's that good! It doesn't stop there because after that track is another slow jam titled "Seul-poon Byul-eh-suh" and Track 10 - "before sunrise..." Then the music gets funky such as "Ol-ga-mi" and "Bad Boy" which I am glad it's not a cover of the Miami Sound Machine song. Then there is the song that was on
their music video clip that took me by surprise, "PATRON" which is a theme song to an animation. It's very cool! The album ends with the karaoke version of "Why." All in all, this is a pretty good album and I am enjoying the progression of Baby V.O.X.'s music. It sounds a lot better than their old stuff and many of the songs on this album are the type of songs you want to listen to over and over again. So, I recommend this CD!
Now I can't wait to see their music videos for these songs! - AC's Dennis A. Amith |
